Life Imprisonment for breaking a toilet?!

When Brubaker speaks to Bullen for the first time as Warden he says to him ''it says here you're a lifer, you got life for breaking a toilet'' Can they really give someone a life sentence for breaking a toilet in the states? That punishment is insane! Is that the 3 strikes law? Its absolutely crazy that someone would do life along with murderers and sex offenders just for breaking a toilet

reply

Yeah. It was the 3 strikes law loophole that many courts have used to "lock someone up and throw away the key" because REASONS.

On paper, said law makes sense. But just like communism, it fails once put into practice because it's too easily abused by those in power.

reply

Sense? Not to anyone who believes in justice.

The "he only stole a slice of pizza" type of argument is always brought up against Three Strikes laws, but it's the individual's lifetime record of criminality that really got him put away. Three Strikes resulted in a significant drop in crime and increase in safety. What we have going on today, especially in Democrat-run cities, is the opposite, and we're paying a heavy price.
