Anyone agree?

Is it just my family and I, or is this movie ridiculously bad. Ulli Lommel is one of the worst directors I have ever seen. He puts so many ridiculous things into his movies. Example: The little kid screaming "WOMEN" for absolutly no reason then getting killed by a window dropping ever-so-slowly onto his neck.

Yeah, this movie was horrible. My brother and I tried to watch this today and we seriously had to stop it. We got so bored with it.
It was so weird, like the mom put her things (I forget what they're called) over that guys face. I was just like alrightttt.

And the little boy screamed 'Boogeyman', not women.

I don't agree..that this movie was bad.
It's probably horrible to people who aren't true horror fans, and don't understand the concepts behind them.
One thing you can't lose sight of is...this is 80's classic horror..designed to creep you out, not win an oscar, and in my opinion...it did it's job.
Was it boring at times? sure it was...but that's part of the beauty of this type of horror..is it's supposed to be a bit boring..and creepy....unlike the horror films today..where every 5 seconds..someone is being butchered and taken away by zombie looking mutants or something.

reply

I see what you're saying. I myself am not a horror fan (and certainly not an 80's horror fan), but if this is a vintage film then hey, whatever.

And when you say Nacy, you mean it as an insult..OK..Thats offensive..Thats why its a good insult

reply

Awful film....and after 2 minutes (the soundtrack is a dead give away, might i add) you know this is a really bad rip-off of Halloween.

reply

It's nothing like Halloween.

John Carpenter's Halloween is vintage - this movie begins quite well and then gets mired in slasher killings and silly possessions. Still, always a treat to watch John Carradine.

Films are not reality. Reality is not film. Film is only an approximation of reality.

This post is probably too old to bother responding to, but I can't help myself.

If you aren't a fan of horror, and you are "certainly" not a fan of 80s horror, what in the holy hell were you doing watching an obscure 80s horror movie?

I'm not big on historical dramas, so I mostly refrain from watching them and then complaining about how boring and tepid they are. Are you getting my point here? I could spend my days writing posts on music message boards about how I don't like rap, or I could...not listen to a musical genre that I know I hate.

It's one thing to dislike a film and then discuss it here, we all see things that we don't care for and most of us probably go to the film's board and give our 2 cents for one reason or another. But to watch something you know you aren't a fan of, that you specifically dislike, and then complain about it is just lunacy.

I'm a very big horror fan ... and this film was terrible. It's got nothing to do with not being like current horror films. It was nonsensical, cheap and just basically lame.

reply

This movie is god awful.......how about when he chokes the girl almost to death
and she never comes back with the police for attempted murder

reply

I agree this movie is terrible. Theres dramatic creepy music thrown in at the dumbest scenes, a priest driving a car, thats pretty creepy.... not. The acting is god awful too, no one seems freaked out by anything that happens, and lacey has some of the funniest screams ever, it was comedy.

reply

It's a lousey movie by general standards, but if you like 80s horror movies it's golden. I actually though the premise was wonderfully original. The execution was a Halloween rip-off obviously. It'd make a killer remake if all the cheese was cut out.

The little kid actually says "boogeyman" which makes a lot of sense in the context/title of the movie. As someone who has watched a lot of bad movies, this film is far from bad. Actually, it is quite good.

reply

No, I don't think "The Boogeyman" is a terrible film. Derivative and downright goofy in spots, certainly, and far from the greatest horror film ever lensed, but it's one of those movies that works in spite of its flaws. (See also "Satan's Black Wedding".) Most of the scenes intended to be creepy actually are, and Suzanna Love--in addition to being very easy on the eyes--has charisma in spades. I can't say that about too many other horror film heroines.

Ulli Lommel is worse than Ed Wood Jr. I don't see how he gets distribution. His movies look like they were shot on a camcorder with a budget of twelve dollars.
'Zombie Nation' is so bad, the only thing I can think of that is worse is 'Birdemic: Shock and Terror'.

Sincerely, yahmez the mad.

it sounded like the kid yelled "FREEMAN!" to me

No I don't agree. I like it alot.
Also how is this a rip off of Halloween? So they show a house at the start. So? It couldn't be anything less like Halloween.
