What The Godfather was for mobsters is what this film is for lovable yet unreliable rogues in their late 20s/early 30s.

Part of the timeless charm of the film and why it never gets boring to re-watch

I could never stomach the Godfather, but Jake and Elwood Blues are excellent characters that deserved better than the catastrophe of the Blues Brothers 2000. Much like Smokey and the Bandit, the golden age of Hollywood has passed and movies are made for consumption only rather than to stick around for generations.
