I don't think that the movie needs a remake, but I wouldn't mind a variation, something inspired by but different from TBL.

In the near future, an arcology is built in the middle of the desert. The arcology is evacuated during a time of war, but a little boy, a little girl, and a man just escaped from jail are left behind. Within a year the man dies from an overdose of meth (it was locked up in the old police station but he found it), and the boy and girl have to fend for themselves. There's plenty of food and water, and the lush parks continue.

In the more distant future, a group of moral reactionaries are moving to an O'Neill habitat in the Kuiper Belt. There, they can create a more moral society by properly raising their children, without knowledge of money, sex, or death until they are old enough to understand. But on the way something goes wrong, and the spacecraft is destroyed. Only three survivors (a little girl, a little boy, and a low-ranking crew member) make it to the habitat, and they find that only the park is still fit to live in. Within a year...

The 1980 movie is a remake. A remake of the 1949 movie, itself a remake of the 1923 movie. And there was a stage play before that, and the book before that.

It seems to be some Law of Cinema that The Blue Lagoon gets a remake every few decades. I'm looking forward to the 2023 version myself.
