Emmeline pronunciation?
Each time I watch this movie, I am intrigued at the pronunciation of Emmeline's name.
It is spoken as "Emma-lyne", rather than that which I would have thought, as "Emma-leen"
At first I thought that it was just the uncle/officer on board the ship that had this (strange) pronunciation, but throughout the whole movie, everyone seems to call her by the "Emma-lyne" version.
No wonder it was so often shortened to just "Em"...
Question: Is this the way it is pronounced in the US, or is it this way because that is what the director wished?
I am open to suggestions.
