What's your favorite scene(s) in TBL and why?

I love this movie and not ashamed to admit it.It's far from perfect obviously but there's something that is very sweet and beautiful about the film that gets to me each time I watch it and it has nothing to do with the nudity. I just see it as a wonderful coming of age story and truly timeless.

For me two of my favorite scenes are during the montage of them being in love Richard is lying on the rock and Em swims up to him saying "I'm so happy & I love you" just before the scene fades out. You don't actually hear the dialogue you can just read her lips over the lovely score playing in the background. The way Kleiser(dir.)shot that with the camera in the water following Brooke as she swims over to Chris and the way she glances at him is just so tender and perfect imo.

The other is them sitting on the beach covered in mud and the ship comes by and there's that pause when they look at each other with no dialogue spoken and wonder should they call out for a rescue. I love how Chris plays the moment entirely through his eyes. He's ready to accept his fate that the island is now his home and is at peace with it. It's a great metaphor for his character having come full circle.

Please fell free to share some of your favorites as well!

Cheers!!

My favorite part is when they first discover they are about to make love for the first time. It is just so beautiful and natural.

My 2nd favorite part is when Em is teaching little Paddy to swim. Em & Richard are so excited as new parents.

The whole montages of Em & Richard falling in love and the relationship with their son is amazing.

This is a movie I can watch over and over again. Not only for it's stunning island beauty but because it is one movie IMHO that features a pure and natural love between two people.

Those are great scenes you mentioned too

Another section I really like is the whole montage with young Em & Richard learning how to survive on the island.

There's one scene in particular where Paddy's teaching him how to fish on the rocks and in the background is Em sitting looking out into the ocean with her arms crossed as I recall. She looks so angelic and at peace.

That's probably my favorite single frame in the entire movie. It's like a Rockwell painting.

It's just so perfect. :)

My favorite part is where she is swimming thought the water at night and the moonlight causes there to be a halo of light around her. The score is playing. I love it because it's just so beautiful to watch.

The beauty is I'm learning how to face my beast ~ Blue October
