Who has read the book?

Has anyone read Joseph Wambaugh's novel, and how does the film compare? Is the book worth seeking out?

Movies are rarely as good as their source material, but I think this was an outstanding film with a great mix of comedy, romance and melodrama. The cast is superb and works wonders together. I miss these kind of movies, which feel very free-form and oblivious to whatever a test audience would dictate. 8/10 stars.
