Are the Germans portrayed fairly in this film?

He prob means did they run out from good cover into Allied Fire and get mowed down ...like in the 60s series Combat !...

Or, restated using that logic, "Did the human race try to take over the world and gas bunch of innocent civilians, also using area bombing to kill hundreds of thousands more, and million more of the defeated enemy murdered and starved during the first winter after the war".

Yeah, that's how using the logical fallacy of collective guilt works. Not all Germans were working towards that intent, not even probably a majority were. Until you've lived under a totalitarian regime, best not to judge too harshly the inaction that I guarantee you most of us would take as the route that fear pushes you toward.
