Love this movie!
What a joy to see this on dvd after all these years. last copy I had was a dodgy video recording. To see it again cleaned up and in the proper ratio. What a treat. Gonna go and watch it again... ; )
shareYeah I was looking for this movie for a long time and happy to finally see it on dvd. I remember it well. Had such a great impact on me when I was young. You never really saw films about black British culture and especially not back in 1980. I remember my brother taping it on channel 4 one night because he had seen it at some friends house a while before and then one night I watched the vhs and it struck a chord with me. Great to see Brinsley Forde in it. I used to see him about Harlesden because he had a son my age roughly who I kind of knew. And I liked Aswad back in the 1980s.
There're so many familiar faces in this too. It was hard-hitting and I remember when the two coppers beat up the black youth and was really angry and sad more than any other film I'd seen back then. The soundtrack is brilliant too. Aswad were great and the only other film like this really is the seminal classic The Harder They Come (not a masterpiece of cinema but always enjoyable nonetheless).
