Excellent film

From the negative reviews I had read I was expecting something dreadful but instead was treated to a rich pscyhological palette of emotion, tension and dark beauty. The acting was superb and was complimented by an excellent Bergman script. The film also looks beautiful thanks to Nykvst once again. This is one of Bergman's most tense films and would be considered a masterpiece by any other filmmaker. 9/10.

I had the exact same experience. I was expecting something... not to so great but the film turned out to be unique and masterful.

Where did you see it? I saw this film in the early '80s, and it has haunted me ever since. I have tried many times to track it down on dvd but to no avail. How were you able to find it? I'd love to see it again.

Tartan has released a region 2 DVD:

It is as far as I know the only available copy.

When the choice is between a American and a Russian film, always choose the latter.

I thought it was great. I found it really interesting, & I like the way Bergman used both colour & B&W. I was tired when I first watched it, so I should watch it again. I bet I would like it even more.

It's showing later tonight, 4/24/16 @4am, on TCM.

I caught it last night and I thought it was decent. The color/b&w, the acting, the plot, all good.
I thought the ending was abrupt and odd with the last comments about the teddy bear from childhood, then nothing more, but I liked it.
