Hotels

Any one know the name of the hotel that was being demolished at the end of the film? The one imploded in the beginning was the old Traymore Hotel, but I can't figure out the one at the end.

reply

that hotel was the Blenheim portion of the Marlborough-Blenheim.

Thanks for the response but the hotel demolition can't be the Blenheim. It was imploded in 1978 a year before the movie went into production. From what I see I think it might be the Chelsea Hotel. Anyone out there that can confirm it?

They were great Hotels, showplaces, like older movie theaters, to bad they had to go-----PROGRESS MOVES ON

I stayed in some when I was younger and just before gambling got to AC. They were a little frayed but still grand, better than the Motel attmosphere you get not===== They were HOTELs

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy

Progress?? They tore down these structures that were still quite habitable. They could have easily used them for housing for the residents of AC and the surrounding areas. Instead, they should have burned down the rest of residential AC, it's basically a ghetto sitting on a trash heap. I guess, on in America, would that be seen as progress.

"...were still quite habitable. They could have easily used them for housing..."

Just remember who "they" are--the companies/banks that OWNED them, who could do with the properties whatever they wanted. In this case, tearing them down was more profitable (no one makes a profit on public housing) and more beneficial to the community (new construction = more jobs, more tax ratables). Regarding public housing, several quad/courtyard-style projects built there in the 80s have also since been torn down, as they provided a natural safe haven for drug dealers and were not kept up by their resident "owners" who didn't pay for them.

Definantly wasn't the Chelsea.

It could have been the Blenheim. It could have been something they filmed earlier and used.

Just be truthful and if you can fake that you've got it made. ;)

The hotel that was demolished at the end of the film was definitely the Ambassador! Tropicana bought the hotel in 1978-79 and wanted to renovate, but were denied (supposedly by the NJ governor Brendan Byrne) and were forced to demolish the building which was massive; ironically some of the steel structure was left intact and reused for the Tropicana hotel/casino which is still in operation today.
