Is this film banned in the UK?

I've searched every video shop in Redditch and still haven't got it yet, it had better be as good as Cannibal Holocaust

Yeah, it's banned alongside some other 20 or so gore flicks during Britain's "Video Nasty" ban of 1984 (http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk/nasties.htm), although in the past few years the BBFC have released some titles (most of them heavily cut).

Redditch!? Near Birmingahm in Worcs.? I live there. I've got two copies, one on VHS and an old Betamax tape! It's still banned in the U.K. because no one has bother to buy the rights and re-submit it to the BBFC, if it were submitted under the present guidelines it would easily pass uncut, there's not really that much gore in it. Maybe some budget company will pick it up and release it at some point. Your not missing much.

Movie is coming out in the UK, first or second week in April, at a semi-budget (£9.99) price point. Pic is totally uncut and has a lot of very promising extras. I can only assume that the UK rights have been bought from someone in Holland or the US who has compiled a 'special edition'. Not exactly great art, but I really enjoyed this all those years ago when it came out in the UK on Canon Video, and I hope the burglar who took this, and around 100 other rare VHS tapes is enjoying it as well!

I haven't seen the film but the BBFC website says it's been removed, maybe that's it if they were really hurt.

It's already out. I saw 2 copies in virgin in telford. It's been cut by 2 secs on the flaming rats. Its about 16 quid and i would have got it if i didn't buy the Euroshock 2000 version from America. By the way the new artwork is awful

I agree.
The new artwork is just silly.
I saw the uncut region 1 Euroshock version before I bought the new uk version.
The flaming rats scene isn't a big loss. Infact it's quite pointless. I recomend buying the uk version if anyone hasn't seen it yet. It has the exact same extras.

A film worth checking out.

i just picked up a VHS copy of this film from my dads work, its a graphic design company, hopefully he didnt do the artwork for the dvd release, someone said it looks silly :/

reply

I am fairly sure it is not banned in the UK but many video shops will not stock it because of an arguably niche audience. However, I have just seen that there is a version for only 2.99 on HMV's website if that helps.

Was screened on the Horror Channel a couple of nights ago. Not much help telling you after the event, but stuff is often repeated there, so keep an eye out, if you're still looking,
