Eastwood to make 3rd 'Which' movie

My buddy Ryan in Santa Monica says he knows a guy who's working on a script with Eastwood himself for a third "Which" movie. The plot revolves around Clyde, who is getting older and nearer to death (like the Clint and Geoff characters), so they set off on a road trip to find him a suitable woman orangutang. At the end of it there's a wedding between Clyde and a female orangutang.

My buddy says his buddy says that Clint wanted to do an upbeat thing that addresses issues of climate change and the increasing extinction of rain forest and jungle animals. The Hell's Angels are in it again. I told my buddy to ask his buddy if they're gonna be riding on those little scooter things but he said they're the bad guys polluting the atmosphere and that isn't funny cos one of them doesn't have any legs these days.

Sounds *beep* terrible if you ask me. Is Clint on drugs? I'd rather he made another Dirty Harry movie.

reply

Doesn't sound too plausible. Clint and Geoff are too old to be playing rolls like that, and that plot with Clyde is just ludicrous. And Clint is pretty conservative, I can't see him even needing to do a movie like that. (Rain forrests! Give me a break!) What's he going to do, beat the crap out of a bunch of lumberjacks who cut down trees or something? If they ever do this movie, I won't see it. Clint fighting was what made the first two such a hoot. (The biker gang is in it? What are they now, the Black Widows Wheelchair Gang?)

Actually, Eastwood (a self-described political "moderate") does worry about climate change and is pretty big on land conservation; not Robert Redford big, but big enough.

Eastwood's Pale Rider (1985) constituted perhaps the only 'environmentalist' Western.

They already did a third film.

Philo got too old to fight, so he switched to coaching younger fighters.

Geoffrey Lewis was busy filming "Devil's Rejects", so his role was played by Morgan Freeman.

I think the new film was called "Million Dollar Baby" or something.

Sounds like *beep*.

Clint is a Republican so he would know that climate change is a load of crap.

I have always wondered if there were any plans to make a 3rd movie since both movies were actally pretty good films.

reply

Yes both films were very good and I am surprised that they did not do a third movie.

I think in the 3rd movie, he becomes one of the black widows.

That would not be cool to see!

Naa, if they tried to revive the redneck comedy genre, like "Which Way" or "Smokey/Bandit," it would be awful -- those movies were funny in their day, but they just wouldn't work today, not with the political correctness and cookie cutter actors and actresses we have today.

reply

You are correct about the "politically correctness" way that would ruin the movie if something like that was made today.

I do not count Million Dollar Baby as a third installment to Any Which Way You can or the Any Which Way. Sorry guy.

I would think that Philo Bedo (Clint Eastwood) and Geoffrey Lewis's characters would have aged too much since the last movie, for Clyde to still be alive.

Five year old thread. Safe to say this is bull.

Clint Eastwood is 83 years old. The ship sailed on a "Which" sequel many years ago. I wonder if there was one planned in the '80s. It would have made sense. The first two movies were very successful at the box office. Clint made five Dirty Harry films. He made three Spaghetti Westerns also known as the Man with No Name Trilogy. Why only two "Which" movies?

Eastwood kept coming back to Callahan in large part because he kept finding fresh scripts and thus clever challenges (to the character or, in some cases, to the critics). He may have come back one time too many, but the first four films, at least, kept breaking new ground and providing ironic developments. But if he had just been repeating the first movie, Eastwood probably would have never made a single sequel to Dirty Harry. Give John Milius credit for developing the ingenious idea of having Harry go up against some real executioners on the police force, allowing everyone to see what fascism really looks like and how the critics of the original film proved so off-base. But without those types of great ideas, Eastwood would not have come back to the character.

Thus he was not going to make a third Philo Beddoe movie just for the sake of it, and he probably never came across another decent script for him.
