Do you think that if Julian had accepted Leon's offer at the Probe gay club to do his tricks, Leon would have spared him from the frame that Leon himself had orchestrated against Julian in the first place?

My interpretation is Leon was paid to frame Julian. Even if he had the power to help Julian he couldn't. Leon was on the hook to powerful people that he could not double cross.

Good point. I think you got it right. Anyway, the prequel idea should be definitely focused on the relationship between Julian and Leon. Leon is a central character in his "formation".
