What does Chevy Chase have to do with this movie?

Chevy Chase didn't like the erotic nature of the film and claimed that the part was largely rewritten at Richard Gere's request.

Chevy Chase? What connection does he have to the movie? Who cares what he thinks about the erotic content, and how would he know the part (presumably Gere's part) was largely rewritten? Is this bit of trivia suggesting that there was little erotic content before Gere requested changes?

If he was considered for the role, that badly written trivia entry should have made it clear. Thanks for the reply.

i was wondering about that myself!

i cannot believe that chevy chase was even remotely considered for the role, i think that this trivia is 'a joke'

I just now requested that the entry be deleted. If he was up for that role, then Bill Murray was up for Rambo.

They've since modified the trivia entry to state that Chevy Chase was offered the lead role. It doesn't address the rewrite, though:

Chevy Chase, Christopher Reeve and John Travolta were all offered the lead role of Julian but all turned it down. Reeve was supposedly offered $1 million to play the title role. Travolta originally accepted the part then revoked it.

I can't quite see Chevy Chase in the role either, but I think it could have worked at the time and wish he had explored more dramatic roles. Would it really have been impossible for him to pull it off?

I think the problems with this film are more the result of writing than casting anyway. It's just a very thinly developed lead in my opinion.

I personally think that actors spin these b.s. stories in order to have something to talk about during interviews when they get bored; it's a way of stealing focus away from another actor.
