Do you think a Remake is a good idea?

I hate remakes... but some movies from the past have so much potential, and just didn't pan out. I think AG is a good film, but in this day and age, I think a lot could be done to transform it into a sexy and cool modern day drama/thriller that is even a step above Schrader's film. Maybe even in black and white. Whatdya think?

You hate remakes, yet you want to see this done again? What the hell...are you scatter-brained?

Why is it that there's a stupid remake thread in every movie that I go to read about?

Leave the originals the fu * ck alone and come up with your own ideas.

There's a ton of books out there that could be good movies....

And why in black and white?

Thinking ahead, do you think there should be
a remake of a remake for this film? I don't usually like remakes
of remakes but this might be a good candidate for one.
I know Miley Cyrus is only 15, but she could play
Michelle by the time they make the remake remake. What do you, like, think?

Black and white? Is this to [over]compensate for a lack of originality?! Hmm.

I completely agree with you!!
I am absolutely distraught they are re making Arthur (especially with Russell Brand!!! couldn't be more wrong), but I htink AG would be a good remake. SOme films are just so great the first time round they should be left well alone, but some are good and could be brought more up to date, which Ag definately is. I also think I know he perfect actor to play Julian...Milo Ventimiglia.

Of course a remake would not be a good idea. What an incredibly stupid question to ask.

I'm not as super hostile to remakes as most IMDB posters are, but I gotta admit most are terrible.

This movie might be a decent remake because the original was a better narrative than a complete film, and at its core it's kind of an LA noir mystery, a genre which holds up better to remakes than many.

One question would be whether to set a remake in the same era or whether to update it to a contemporary time period. The original has more than a touch of late 1970s Schraderesque sleaze. A remake in this era might lend itself to Hollywood's penchant for over the top retro production design which might be distracting. Although you wonder if the story would seem implausible in a media and paparazzi choked LA of now. Plus do we really have the rich older matrons anymore? So many older women these days are so good at staying youthful and attractive into their 50s it's kind of hard to understand what the modern version of his clientele would be.

Well, they keep remaking A Star Is Born every few years because it's a perfect vehicle to launch a new leading lady. So even though I don't want them to remake it, it's plausible to "re-imagine" this story for another up-and-coming actor.

This makes me wonder if Pretty Woman, a film made in 1990, will soon be remade, or even adapted for Broadway much like Hairspray was. And if Pretty Woman gets remade, what about Roman Holiday?

That guy Glen Savchenko is perfect.
