I remember watching this movie in its entirety on NBC back in the early 80's. I think it's the best film on Alcatraz that I've seen. I feel that it's a must see movie for anyone who ever wishes to take a tour over to Alcatraz Island. I'd like to find it either on VHS or DVD, if possible. The performances are exceptional.

Trying to find a copy of this 2-part 200 minute made for tv movie is proving impossible.
sharevery true i saw it on the encore true stories channel...at my dads in cali...i dont get that channel...and my dad didnt have a vcr...so i got to watch it 3 years ago...but dont have a copy....the only luck i have when it comes to this movie is bad luck

I have a friend who managed to track down a copy (using Amazon) of both parts and we have watched it 3 times over last month. He won't allow me to copy it as scared it will fall apart soon! Well it is a 20+ year old VHS tapes. I thought both part A (1946 escape) and part B (1962) escape were good.

You are such a huge fan that if I had permission to copy it I would gladly give you a copy for free. However, my friend won't allow me to borrow the movie. Last week I watched both part 1 and 2 for the 4th time. I wish it was out on DVD.

shareOk just watched the whole thing and it is now my favorite movie on Alcatraz, as accurate (according to Clarence Carnes) as its going to get. When my computer DVD player is fixed I will post the movie on Youtube.

shareOver the last week I have re-read Battle of Alcatraz, watched Six Against the Rock and Alcatraz: The Whole Shoking Story (Part 1 & 2). I just can't understand how intelligent Coy, who formulated his escape plan over more than a year, who was an orderly with so much freedom to roam the Cellhouse, completely failed to observe that Guards would occasionally break protocol and not return the Recreational Yark key to the gun gallery but pocket it instead for near future use. Wow, what an oversight.
