It's just incredible how much booze drinking there is in this series. It is almost as if the main characters are pouring themselves an alcoholic drink every other scene. Was it really that common for British politicians in those days? Or was in more representative of the level of alcohol drinking in tv series during the 80's?

shareAlcohol, like cigarettes, were a completely different thing back in the day.
Or rather, people's attitudes about those things were. You could smoke anywhere, even in airplanes, if you can believe that.
Everyone had - or were expected to have - a big booze collection for when anyone would visit them. Drinking was the norm, not the exception.
It's weird how people flock to those two things although they're so harmful to their health and mind.
