In Scruples Two, a new character is introduced: Gigi Orsini, the 16-year old daughter of Billie's new husband, Vito Orsini. He's had nothing to do with her all of her life and her mother has just died. Billie melts over this young girl and invites Gigi to live with her and Vito. (much to Vito's dismay)

Billie miscarries the baby she's pregnant with at the end of Scruples. Vito is too wrapped up with his new movie to notice or care. It's Gigi who is there to help nurse Billie back to health.

Billie kicks Vito to the curb and divorces him, but "keeps" Gigi. Even after divorcing Vito, she still considers Gigi her daughter. She also becomes Gigi's legal guardian.

Spider and Valentine get married (they eloped) and are now partners in Scruples (which has gone worldwide). Valentine is designing movie costumes for Melanie Adams (at Billie's urging) and is working late one night in her design studio. She falls asleep on her office couch with a lit cigarette and Scruples burns to the ground, killing Valentine.

Spider is so overcome with grief that he buys a boat, leaves it all behind and sails the world.

Billie is so distraught and overcome with grief (feeling guilty that she urged Valentine to design the movie costumes) that she closes all of the Scruples stores and moves to France. She has a fling with an artist, but doesn't tell him she's "famous", going by an old nickname of Honey when she's with him. (she tells him she's a school teacher) When he finds out she's Billie Ikehorn, he's furious that she didn't tell him and he leaves her.

Josh Hillman (the lawyer who was going to marry Valentine) ends up marrying Gigi's best friend, Sasha (a lingerie model).

Gigi convinces Billie to resurrect the Scruples name and let her use it on a mail order catalog business. Gigi and Sasha are partners with Billie and Spider.

Dolly Moon (the actress in Scruples) is also in this book. At the end of Scruples, her water breaks and she leaves the Academy Awards, in labor. She has a baby girl (Wendy). Dolly marries Lester (the guy who was basically hired to keep an eye on her). They end up having twin boys.

Dolly lets Gigi use her name for a line of plus sized women's clothes in the Scruples catalog. She figures it's a good incentive to keep her own figure in check so she doesn't have to wear "Dolly Moons".

Eventually Spider and Billie connect up and get married. At the end of the book, Billie is pregnant with twin boys.

In Lovers (the 3rd book):

Billie and Spider argue over the direction of Scruples (the mail order company), as Billie wants to introduce furniture to the line. Spider thinks it's a dumb idea and they fight. Billie picks up and leaves Spider (and the twin toddlers, Max and Hal, knowing they're in safe hands with Spider) and flees to France for a few weeks. She flirts with the artist she had a fling with in Scruples Two, but it goes no further.

Spider follows Billie to France (with the twins), where they work things out.

Josh and Sasha (who have a baby girl, Nellie) divorce.

Gigi leaves Scruples (the mail order catalog) to work at an advertising agency.

The book deals mainly with Gigi's love life. She hooks up with a coworker at the ad agency, and later, a multi-millionaire (Ben, a younger cousin of Billie) who turns out to be a jerk, so she leaves him. She also has plans to start a chain of ritzy children's boutiques (The Enchanted Attic).

In the end, Gigi ends up with Sasha's brother and Sasha ends up with Gigi's dad, Vito.

They're wonderful books and if you loved this mini-series, you'll love following the trials and tribulations of these characters.

What's the point of this post? It's just a list of spoilers for people who haven't read the books. Nothing to do with the TV movies. This is a movie database not a book review site.

reply

Because there are people, like myself, who loved the mini-series and were curious as to how the author of the book continued the stories of the characters in the mini-series.

If you didn't want to read the "spoilers" from the books, then you should've clicked the post closed after reading my first sentence (which explained that the post was about the books, upon which the original mini-series was created from).

Thank you Sabrina, for the synopsis! I love this show, but I don't enjoy reading Krantz novels because my attention span is really short. Thank you again.

reply

You're welcome! I also loved the mini-series (and the book) and was delighted to see that Judith Krantz continued their story.

On a sad sidenote, actress Marie-France Pisier, who played Valentine, died in April.

God, legatushedlius, you must be so much fun at parties and to be around in life in general.

I THANK the person who posted these since I don't want to have to read the last two books but it's interesting to see what Judith Krantz had in mind.

I only read Scruples when I read Lindsay Wagner was going to star in the miniseries, then I saw the miniseries.

There IS a point and I'm thankful, so shoot me.

I've had a hardback copy of Scruples 2 since the early-1990s. She kills off Valentine? Now I'll never read it. :)

And by the way, I don't think this post is irrelevant at all. It's interesting to find out what became of the characters long after seeing Scruples (34 years ago now).

Vito always was a jerk, in the book and the film.

I'm glad you liked the synopsis of the two sequels written by Judith Krantz.

I was pretty shocked that Valentine died in the second book. I think I re-read the paragraph two or three times to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Oh yes, Vito is a total jerk throughout Scruples Two, but he's kind of redeemed by the end of Lovers (when he marries Gigi's best friend, Shasha).
