Fred's House in 'Sanford + Son' and 'Sanford'

In "Sanford & Son," Fred's house looked old and worn out.

In "Sanford," Fred's house all of a sudden is *beep* and span and has that '80s sheen.

What happened? Did Fred come into a lot of money?

And the outside junkyard looked much more tidied up and organized.

I guess they were trying to show that Fred had to get off his lazy ass and take some responsibility with running the junkyard since the character of Lamont (in the script) was written off by going to work on the Alaskan pipeline.

In "Sanford & Son", Lamont was doing all of the cleaning and moving of junk. I guess Fred has some help in the spin-off with the character of Cal.

The two shows were filmed at different studios, so I'm assuming the set had to be completely reconstructed for SANFORD. It is different in a lot of ways. Besides being cleaner, the kitchen is redesigned and they added a guest room on the first floor (where Cliff stays).

And in a really careless goof, they put the wrong address on the door. Every SANFORD & SON fan knows Fred lives at 9114 South Central, but the numbers on the door are different (and I think they changed from first season to second). In one episode Fred calls the cops and gives the 9114 South Central address, showing he knew more than the set designers.
