The speech Fred gives about being tolerant of ppl

The speech that Fred gives Cal's racist mother about being tolerant and not hating him b/c of his skin color, I thought was very touching, but Fred HIMSELF has done this countless times, he has hated on many ppl just b/c of their race or nationality. He flat out said he didn't like Julio b/c he was Puerto Rican.

That would also apply to his view on Cliff dating a visually impaired woman. Remember that episode? The minute Cliff introduces her to his family and friends they pass judgment. I saw that on BET as a rerun when I was 11 or 12 and it stayed with me.

They seemed to really soften Fred, and harden up Esther in Sanford.

I think one of the reasons it failed, by the late 70s/early 80s sitcoms couldn't be as offensive or do the type of political humor of the late 60s/early 70s.
