Please, BBC, Please!

Once you've cleared up the royalties business, start releasing all the series of NTNON this year, seeing it's the show's 30th anniversary (well, it will be in October). Also, if you can, include Rowan Atkinson's Canned Laughter as an extra on the series 1 DVD, even if it is owned by ITV.

It's about time it got released completely, even if there was that recent controversy surrounding Chris Langham.

I don't think it can be a royalty issue in this case, I can't think of much (if anything) in this series that the BBC don't own outright.

So what is the reason then?
The reason for them not showing the series, I mean. Does anyone know?

It's odd, given how the Beeb are so happy to pack the schedules of their minor channels with endless cycles of Dads Army, Porridge, Fools & Horses, the Good Life, and Blackadder. All good shows in their own right. But why not NTNON??

So I'd like to re-iterate the OP's message. Come on BBC. Just show the damn thing! I've heard it said that the reason is because the shows were full of references to that week's news, and people wouldn't get the references. That can't possibly be the real reason. They can't possibly beieve we are that stupid!!!

So, please do just show them again. And if I can add another plea: show them as they were actually broadcast!! This passion that TV companies have for slicing up old comedy shows, re-packaging them and interspersing the scenes with random talking heads saying how great it was... Its so annoying! On the one hand they are saying, "This was a fabulous seminal programme"... and on the other they cant just let us watch it unspoiled as it was at the time! It would be so refreshing to be able to watch NTNON exactly as it was broadcast at the time, warts and all.

The only thing I can think of is the dreaded PC stopping them from showing certain things (although I don't see that as being a problem with things such as Zach).

Some of the sketches would be far too unsuitable for broadcast now. Even on a sat channel.

I just hope that they still have the full versions. What has been released are the episodes of "The Best of Not The Nine O'Clock News" which was shown a couple of years after the series finished. When it is shown on satellite stations they are also the same edited versions.

Even a few more best of compilations would be nice, using the funniest clips not included so far without Chris Langham in.
