Mac (Caution: Big spoiler if you've never watched Magnum before)

Just wondering people's take on Mac.

Watching with my teenager for her first time.

She was devastated when Mac died. He was her favourite.

We got to episode Mac's Back and beyond now.

Was interested to hear her say she can't understand why they would do it and they should not have.

Curious what everyone thinks of Mac 2.0 (Jim Bonnick). Did you like them bringing back Jeff Mackay and the storyline?

I saw it once many years back, but the wife and I are just winding down season 3, so we're a ways away just yet. But I'll drop back in and comment once I see it again. Just don't quite recall all the details...ah youth, where did you go?

I didn't like "Jim Bonnick" either, and I'm baffled as to why they felt such a need to bring that actor back. Mac was never particularly compelling to watch, so why did he need to return???

I actually liked the way they did it. It was so much better than "oh my god, Mac somehow magically survived the explosion!!". I like that they brought back the same actor, but had him in a different role. Made Magnum do a double take all the time when he saw him.

I totally forget that he actually played 3 different characters in the show. He also played the gate guard, Polenski (who Magnum only referred to as "Ski") in the very first episode.

The last post was correct. He played a guard in the first episode and he was named Ski. I loved the first Mac and I believe the reason he left the show the first time was becausse he landed a role on another Donald P. Bellisario Show, "Tales of the Gold Monkey". I thought the episode "Mac's Back" was great. It was really needed after the previous episode where Sharon Stone committed suicide in front of Magnum. They went back over all of the people that Magnum was close to and he just did not care about anything anymore.

Then he sees Mac and then finds out he's not really Mac, but it gets him out of the depression he was going thru. Anyone who has watched the show, knows that Magnum always conned Mac into helping him, kinda like he did with TC and Rick. With the new Mac(Jim Bonning), it was Mac who was conning Magnum to help him out and Magnum always got into trouble. I always looked at Mac's second stint on the show as payback for the first Mac always getting conned. Now it was Magnum getting conned. It worked so well becasue Magnum always felt guilty for Mac's death and thought he was responsible, so he always fell for the second Mac's con's more easily because of it. I thought the writers got an A+ for that storyline.
