The little touches that make this show so human. For Example.

In the episode titled "Of Sound Mind"...Magnum is packing his belongings to leave the Robins Estate and opens his mini-fridge and removes his beer to go. Just gotta love it.

Another example is the episode where Magnum is swept off his Surf Ski and has to tread water for two days. Also the episode where he is shot and meets Mac in sort of heaven in waiting.

The more I watch this show the more surprises there are in the episodes.

As a kid when it premiered I thought it was light P.I. stuff with great locations, hot girls, fast cars but I see most of it differently now.

The show can appeal to the kid and adult in all of us who are now adults.

My favorite episode is the X-mas one where the 4 leads, Magnum, Higgins, T.C. and Rick are trapped on a island. The U.S. Navy is using the island for target practice. It's all about the interplay between them. There are no bad guys, no mystery, the plot is very simple. Gilligan Island simple. But the dialogue is near perfect and is a real joy to watch. BTW, my 2nd favorite episode is ccorraliza choice. Well done.

The quality of mercy is not strained

Another important fact about this series is that it really was the first TV show that portrayed Vietnam vets with respect. Prior to Magnum, Vietnam vets were either psychos or druggies. Magnum and his pals had some flashback issues, but were mostly well-adjusted. The series deserves high praise for this.

Everything was well thought out and it was always about character first.
