Jear Darblay or Kate Longton?

Who do you think was the best Inspector of Hartley Police Station? Jean Darblay or Kate Longton?

I liked Jean Darblay.

That is a tough one to choose. The first few series with Jean Darblay are great because it was the early 1980 period and it captures a ‘certain’ feel and look.
While Kate Longton in the last few series is a bit sassier. It’s hard to choice. I have seen every episode EXCEPT (the final series) at least twice.

I have showed it to a few of my friends and they say a few snide comments ‘where’s the action’ and all they do is drink tea or solve little problems’ BUT that’s what I like. It doesn’t have to car chases all the time. I just like watching the characters dealing with personnel problems and the performances are GREAT. Why cant programs and EVEN films be well written as this.

Darblay was more old school, quite strict and a product of her (policing) times. Longton symbolised the new, touchy-feely, University educated police "service". (I seem to remember Darblay may have mentioned her Uni days too, but that doesn't fit with my theory so I'll ignore it).

Leyton Orient: by far the greatest team the world has ever seen.
