The Thirteenth Reunion

The first scene of this episode makes it painfully obvious what it's going to be about. Rather than start from there and continue to some predictable but satisfying conclusion, the episode uses the obvious setup to tag on an hour of revealing meaningless "suspense." Thanks for wasting my time, bad episode.

I thought it wasn't too bad. There were some things that were interesting.
I didn't know that there was a Dunkin' Donuts on Fleet Street in 1980, for a start.
I like the way the reporter's boss immediately says to her that she is putting on weight. We're all left puzzled - the poor reporter is quite skeletal; and it is no good wrapping her up in loads of clothes. We can stll see there is not a pick of flesh on her. Was she the only actress available in England?
The PE teacher's harangue at that poor woman, who for some reason is wearing a monokini, is brilliant: "No wonder your husband spends all night at the pub! He must be disgusted!!"
After fatty has taken his pill and is driving home, he is beset by weird white lorries. About a dozen of them. This unfortunate sequence has very bad day/night problems: the lorries loom out of darkness, but when we look from further away it looks only like late afternoon. This scene is a bit like the opening of Lost Highway by David Lynch, but it is also a bit like Planes, Trains and Automobiles, when Candy does that satanic laugh.
It does sort of run out of steam after that. We do get to see the world's biggest Volvo, the little SS man from 'Allo 'Allo and one of those Chinese blokes in Chinese costume. (Whenever a multi-national group of people is shown there always has to be one of those Chinese people, a man in a turban and a man in African gear.)
Mr Chesterton then says the punchline.... or is it?
Not a brilliant episode but at least there are things to look at.

Well when you put it that way, it was pretty funny.

I think this was really creepy too

I saw it last night. A creepy and fantastic story.
Love these episodes!

Although I agree, the "what" was easy to figure out, I thought the "why" was worth it.

I would have liked to see a slightly-edited ending. Rather than going the slasher route, conclude with the Maitre'd intoning "Ladies and gentlemen, dinner is served!"

After all, we all know what the main course is by then.

Has anyone else read Stanley Ellin's "The Specialty Of The House"? It tells a similar story, without once overtly stating what is going on. But by the end of the tale....you know.

The last resort of one who cannot think is to argue that another cannot feel.

LOL leave it to some idiots on imdb to trash ANYTHING.

i didnt think it was a bad episode at all! mind you i dont watch too much TV, at least not anymore, and i also tend to blank out everything when im watching. i dont watch TV or movies with a critics snobbery, like the OP shamefully does. i watch things as they happen. sure sometimes it can be predictable, but this for me, was not at all. i didnt expect an episode dealing with cannibals. and the ending was DAMN CREEPY and totally unexpected. the whole time i thought she was going to expose these people. i didnt know what they were doing with the bodies until i saw the table all set up nicely. i was like OH NO CANNIBALS! and i cant believe i rcognized the old guy who heads the party, hes that chubby guy at freds house from the original Scrooge 1951! i knew he looked and sounded familiar.

anyway, the ending caught me off guard. i fully expected her to snitch on all them, but she got killed too! and so did that other poor guy who was helping her. i just cant get over that ending, just really friggin weird and unexpected. ive only seen 2 episodes so far, but this is by far the most distubring. then again, anything where cannibalism is involved freaks me out. i dont care if i was in a plane crash, i would rather die then eat another person! even thinking about it is awful. however if you look at it another way, the fact that she WAS investigating this story and people back at her newspaper knew about it, and then she turns up missing, would give them a clue as to what happened to her and perhaps eventually they would get them all arrested, kinda like the ending of the Burbs. they might find the peoples bones and stuff.

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!

**SPOILER ALERT**

Not only that, but the lead character's behavior was contrived. I understand that there has to be some stupidity in order to move a plot forward in a horror story, but Ruth's behavior was beyond moronic. NO ONE is THAT stupid.

For some odd reason, I thought maybe her supervisor at the magazine office and the other guy may have been working with the cannibals. Maybe giving her that assignment was a way to get her on the menu so to speak.

What a banquet Humphrey and his guests will have with Ruth and Andrew on the menu.

this was the strangest most out standing bit in this series i've seen, you got this fella screaming his head off about women being overweight, the leading lady is given the most common outfit like a granny gear and hairstyle, i don't know if this was the british fashion for women in the 1980's, so when the older fella start talking about their age gap they actually looked like a couple, and it doesn't even look as a horror, it becomes most strange experiencing it featured as a part of elvira's thriller video collection since she otherwise hosts american horror and sci-fi movies. notice the "planes trains and automobiles" like scene (the one spoofed in family guy.), i see i'm not the first to mention it. couldn't they have done something about that door squeaking before they started shooting the scene near the end.

honey came to take,
a trip with me in space,
everybodys else gone,
thank lucky star you came along,
went with me for a space flight,
a planet some water find, perhaps some skeleton laying around,
but you better be aware and stay safe,
aliens havent seen a honey like you in the cold and empty space,
makes me wonder now, whos been on earth longer womankind or mine,
did you come down from venus just to play my mind,
better get back down before this height makes us funny,
cant believe i get to share planet earth with such a honey,
but if the space aliens ever here will find,
theyd take you away with a bow ribbon around.

The most disturbing facet of this episode was the awful day for night shots.
