I have a memory from watching this in 1980 of how they were afraid that earth's technology was too far behind to defend against cylons so Dillon and Troy went back in time with their vipers by orbitting the earth against the rotation faster than light to WWII time to improve their defenses.

I don't see this among the 10 episodes.

I think that was in the `Galactica discovers Earth` pilot rather than the series.
