Is this on the DVD?

I watched the almost every one of the regular series episodes, but when "Galactica 1980" aired, i had the misfortune of missing this show. Will this be on the DVD?

reply

Honestly, I hope not.

Being a hardcore BG fan, I would most likely purchase it if it came out on DVD. However, I also recall "Galactica 1980 when it originally aired... and it was bad. I prefer to remember Battlestar Galactica's epic tale as poetically ending with the pickup of a "Gamma Transmission", which is clearly identifiable as the voice of Neil Armstrong, with the message: "Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

The pickup of the story with Galactica 1980 was just depressing. It could have been good... but it wasn't. If you've never seen it... you're not missing much. Don't spoil the image... stick to the original series.

There were actually two VHS [out of print] tapes, available in the market of the short-lived, revival [spin-off] series:

"Battlestar Galactica: The Return of Starbuck," &
"Conquest of the Earth" [aka. "Galactica Discovers the Earth Part 1 mixed in with scenes from "The Night the Cylons Landed, Parts 1 & 2.")

If you really are dying to see this series, it airs ocassionally on the
"Sci-Fi" channel. Sometimes on a 5 days, 2-hrs marathon.

If you go to "Scifi.com" and search for "Galactica 1980," it will show you when the next airing of this DREADFUL series will take place. Here's the LINK [http://scifi.com/battlestar/1980/].

No, its bad. ive seen it, and its so so very bad.
The Return of Starbuck is, for intents the ONLY shining glory of the show.

(Watched all the eps of both series as a kid, and as adult, btw)

reply

The Return of Starbuck is on as I write this. It is indeed a craptacular episode of TV. Bad writing (by Glen Larson), bad acting by everyone and a horrible story. Starbuck deserved better. We all deserved better.

I shall owe thee an answer for that...

reply

Well, Cy was expressive.

Galactica 1980 :- where they found earth was released on dvd but it wasn't very popular. copies are out there but it's rare.

reply

I just finished watching the airing on SciFi, and I have to say, I still prefer Galactica 1980 over that new series.

reply

If interesting plot points, better SFX, better acting, nore rounded characters, better writing and scientific accuracy don't appeal to you- that's fine. Just don't be surprised when nobody takes you seriously on the boards.

I shall owe thee an answer for that...

reply

1980 was pretty, I did see the series and it's cool, it suffers
not from special effects but extremely unlikable characters, as always
there's always a tradeoff.

reply

I didn't think 1980 was that bad. I sort of liked it when they had the 12 super scouts who could jump really high & play baseball. The new series is dark and bleak. This series is kind of positive, almost. There is hope. The characters are united together for a common cause against a deadly enemy. I thought 1980 was OK. Not as good as the 1978, but it was OK.

reply

Even though I loved the original series and this spin-off doesn't compare with it in many ways, I can only say... I loved it... Can't exactly explain why but I do. So I hope one of these days I can find it on dvd somewhere.

reply

You have got to be kidding me!

reply

this will be available on dvd in december 2005, the returnn of starbuck wasn't all that bad an episode.
the Dvd will have a three aditional episodes on it, the Return Of Apollo, The Return Of Adama and the magnificent episode "The Retun Of Athena" it will also contain audio commentary by Adama (Lorne Greene) recorded shorty after his death.
Also read Starbucks 2006 novel The Cylons Are Cumming The Cylons are Cumming, which is a hilarious account of his time on the show and overcoming aids which were given to him by the producers.
Also Of interest the original first choice of the Apollo Character was ...................... you guessed it Rixon Nikon former president of Canada.

reply

Hahahah, very funny.

" the Dvd will have a three aditional episodes on it, the Return Of Apollo, The Return Of Adama and the magnificent episode "The Retun Of Athena" "

-> You forgot the best one: "The Return of Little Joe".

" it will also contain audio commentary by Adama (Lorne Greene) recorded shorty after his death. "

-> Wow, now that's impressive! "Recorded shortly AFTER his death". Communicating with the dead, are we?

" original first choice of the Apollo Character was Rixon Nikon "

-> No. Actually, it was Errol Flynn (shortly after his death, of course)!

I'm not crazy, I just do what the voices inside my head tells me to do

reply

Ya know, calling something "bootlegged" is the same as calling it illegal. It's like saying the sky is a blue blue sky.

reply

I bet you feel super smart now for poiting out something useless on an internet message board :P

So if it's a bootlegged illegal copy, does that mean it's legal?

One word....Flying Motorcycles!!!!!!

Uh... isn't that two words?

I too am looking for it on DVD. Have got the original series which we have just finished watching and thought it would be a good idea to see what the 80's one was like. I remember watching this as a child but as I was very young I can't remember all of the details. Also didn't realise it was so hard to get.

reply

My dad bought the bootleged DVD's simply to have Batllestar 80 with the original series. I will watch it someday simply because it exsists and then make my own judgement, the reason it was so *beep* tho was because they were given no budget and as far as I know it was also aired at a crap time so it got lesser viewers than the orignal series. (Then again that could be because it's crap :P)

reply

is it possible to find out where your father bought this. i know its not a good series but being a huge fan i want it to go with my collection - especially the return of starbuck.
and if you know - would they send this to australia?

thanks for your time

reply

Well my dad bought it of ebay.co.uk but I beleive it was in the international market bit. If there is an ebay Australia try there. If not try ebay USA version and then if you find one request the seller if they could ship there. Most normally do ship items to there. Unfortunately my dad hasn't done me a copy yet otherwise I could have made you a set and then shipped them over there:P and I might not see him for the next 3 to 9 months.

reply

As a Galactica completist, i hope this will get an official dvd release.

reply

I bought them on ebay and I know they are incomplete because in the very first episode there is a missing scene when the 2 lead actors are being booked that it mentions they have no fingerprints because like a lot of criminals they burn them off.
