Earth's technology

Did the show ever adress why Earth was technologically inferior to the colonists? After all, Earth was the lost colony so at some point we possessed the technology to travel across the galaxy to find Earth.

Never addressed in the show. But a reasonable guess is that since Earth was a lost colony, it was isolated from the others. And since the others had access to each other's technology, it makes sense that they were able to draw upon each other's knowledge, and thus were able to expand upon their knowledge and technology at a faster pace.

I think that we may have lost the technology to travel through space etc over time. Much like the so called 'lost' civilisations of the past ended up losing their knowledge. For example, no Egyptian today can tell you with any perfect accuracy how the pyramids were built, or who built the Sphynx and when.

But, that being said, we (the Earth) is called the Thirteenth Colony of Man. This suggests that the Earth was colonised by an advanced civilisation, much like the Twelve Colonies in the original series must have been, well, colonised. This suggests that somewhere out in space, the ORIGINAL home planet for humankind either ONCE existed, or still exists today (in Battlestar Galactica land/world). Now that would be an interesting story line.

Kobol, i believe.

yeah it was kobol, originally the lords of kobol (or to us, the greek pantheon) left thier home and seeded 13 colonies earth was the lost colony. we evolved slightly differently though, while we left the pantheon behind and formed monotheistic religion (much like the cylons in the new BSG) and our brethren stuck with the lords of kobol.

Yeah. Now how exactly does one loose a planet?

reply

By losing all means of communication with it, I'd imagine.

I used to have a , but damnit do I want a !

You all are forgetting one thing here! We know from Galacica 1980 that the other tribes did not have fingerprints and that their blood was different! Why is this? My theory is this: We of Earth are just a small portion of the Thirteenth Tribe! Keep in mind they found a planet in the orginal series called Terra and Terra was a Gemonese word for Earth! It is also the word for Terra in Latin and Italian! There are no telling how many words there are for Earth for example in French it is Terre, in Spanish Tierra, in German Erde, and then the Moris of New Zealand called Earth Papa! Yeah know Papa is stange word for Earth but it is the Mori word for Earth!

Now think on this! The Thirteenth Tribe traveling through space and loosing ships on the way. Once one of the ships we will say as engine trouble and makes on a crash landing on a beautiful blue word with several oceans and 6 major land masses! The crash kills all but we will say a few males! These males would become known as Cro Magnon! Well this planet as a speices of people on it that would become known as Neanderthal! The surviving males (Cro Magnon) breed with the Neanderthal! Their childern and decendants therefore as two changes. One the difference in blood and now fingerprints! Hummmm! Maybe that would explain the missing link between the Neanderthal and Cro Magnon!

The answer is simple - they simply disposed of all their ships in the sun, and gave up all their advanced technology so they could hunt and live off the land and breed with the monkey-people, to eventually form the human race as we know it.
One day, we, too, will create machines to serve us, and then they will turn on us and either annihilate us or plug us into the Matrix or something.

More likely to have been the females, the males would have been more disposable!

Note how the "Others believe modern man only started in 150,000 B.C" quote fits with the reimagined series end.

The Encyclopedia Galactica, published around 1980, told us that technology had destroyed Kobol, so when the survivors left in 13 ships to settle the Colonies, they abandoned their technology upon arrival there so as not to repeat their mistake. At this point, the Colonies developed differently. Yahrens later, the Capricans sent manned ships to the nearby worlds. They were welcomed with open arms and thus began the long peace. Scientists on all twelve worlds made major advancements until they eventually encountered the Cylons. With no resources from the other worlds, Earth did not develop as quickly and thus was centuries behind the Galacticans when they arrived.
