I did not see the staged fight. The skit with the "sword swallower" grossed me out so much I turned off the TV, not realizing that it was also staged. Of course, I was a tender young adult at the time. Talk about shocking monkies!

I watched that show live when I was in high school. Andy pushing the sword down as the sword swallower did his bit was disturbing. But even then I was an Andy fan, so I wondered if it was a bit. I stuck with the show. The end skit where Andy 'forgets' his lines and the ensuing fight was unreal. Cut to commercial. No explanation. Andy had been a dick the whole show, and it was live. I thought it was real for decades.
Later Andy returned to Fridays as a born-again evangelist, another bizarre show.
