I just mailed a letter to Michael Richards

Urging him to consider granting permission for a DVD release of this show. I'm not old enough to remember it but my aunt was, and he was her favorite guy on the show, and I told him how she'd go crazy if I got her that set for her birthday or Christmas. Hopefully that will get him to think about it a bit.

I'm sure it's a case of "Show me the money" for him. And whatever it is, I'm also sure they can manage it. I also figure, if Michael can handle clips of Fridays being on the Seinfeld DVDs, he can handle a DVD release of Fridays.

Good job.. Realy hope it happens I use to work on that show
( as a stage hand ) And I really miss it... Lot's of great
band porformances too Good luck

reply

I agree. I have great memories of that show. I would buy the dvd's in a heartbeat.

reply

I'll buy it defintely + thanks for making an effort to get this on DvD!

im just wondering how u got his address( or where u sent the letter) and if its possible for me to have?

reply

I think he's at Creative Artists Agency.

I loved Fridays. It was hard to admit, but the bands were better than NYC's SNL, since Fridays was in L.A.

Mike was great as the pharmacist: 'just take a pill!'

I'm going to write him and tell him I love him and that he had a public meltdown and that he should chill, take care of himself and get back into acting and get off the comedy stage.

reply

Hi, FYI Mike didn't play the parmacist, Mark Blankfield did.

I was a big fan of Fridays and have been waiting for years for it to release on DVD. I would like also to write Michael Richards and literally beg him to sign off on the release. Could you provide entire address as to where you sent a letter doing the same?

reply

Skimming through these boards, I see a lot of references to several of the people who were involved in this show having rights to it.
Is this how it works?
And is this why sometimes movies stay in limbo for years, even decades because somebody has a right to refuse and holds the whole thing up?
So, the question is, can some or many people have the right to hold up one particular production?

(If you want to read about gnashing of teeth, look up the 1959 movie of "Porgy and Bess". The "Gershwin Estate", whoever that is comprised of, refuse to release the film because they don't like it.)

reply

There is a possibility that Richards and (Larry) David might not want to have it on DVD, for whatever reason.

reply

i'd like to make you listen to anthrax

reply

At least not as bad as listening to insincere apologizing by out and out racists.

I am in ... in... in! Loved this show so much. Was just sitting here watching a 94' episode of Seinfeld and Melanie Chartoff was on it! It got me thinking about Friday's -- just had to know if we could buy all of the episodes yet...bummer it's not available, but I will keep up with this post to see if it ever does get released!

I wonder if he'll reconsider this now that his circumstances are kind of up in the air. I can't imagine why he wouldn't have signed off on this before anyway - I don't see how it would have hurt his career at all. He did some great work on this show.

I have bootlegs of the show. Its still quite funny and, of course, highly nostalgic since I watched it when it originally aired live. Great memories! Sure would be nice to replace what I have with complete versions. Shout! Factory would release Friday's in a heartbeat just like they did so well with SCTV. Why doesn't Richards allow this to happen?!! Fans want the show. That's who will buy it and love it. Maybe when the hooplah over Seinfeld's release simmers down they'll consider getting it done. Someone should tell them all that many fans are watching bootlegs (which suck, so don't pay money for them) so they are out there whether they like it or not. It just shows how much we want to see the show again. It's ridiculous to hold out from fans like this.

Anyway, nice idea to mail off a letter. I'd like to know where I can do the same. I know other fans who will do the same.

Shout Factory announced plans to release both seasons of the show on DVD in 2013. In August 2013, after missing their original release date, Shout Factory released a five disc best of collection featuring highlights of 16 episodes from seasons one through three, not complete episodes.

You replied to an almost decade old post.
