The complete series at long last!!!

To any IMDB fans of this series please note that the full series is finally out on DVD. Since its first showing in the US (first on CBS and then on Masterpiece Theater), in the late 70's and early 80's, it has been unavailable in its full form. All vhs releases were edited, some more heavily than others. Most odd and frustrating were the repeat showings on the Arts and Entertainment network (when it was A&E and not Court TV Junior like it is today) where one run of it would have 5 to 8 minutes cut out and the next set of showings, a month or two later, would cut out a totally different 5-8 minutes (they did the same with Flambards and Lillie).
So buy it ASAP and enjoy one of Edward Fox's best TV performances along with many others!

I got this for Christmas, after watching it many years ago on TV, and am enjoying it, an hour at a time, tremendously.

Dame Peggy Ashcroft is magnificent as Queen Mary, too. And nearly all the characters, especially the principals, look so much like their real-life counterparts.

Great, great fun.

I remember seeing this series when it first was aired, and I am looking around for the DVD to rent. But I'm interested in the series for another reason. Just now, I am trying to find out who wrote the song - "I danced with a man, who danced with a girl, who danced with the Prince of Wales" - and when the song was written and became popular. I have more than a passing interest in this; I am a mystery writer - go to www.ericstride.com, if you want to know more - and I want to quote the lyrics, with appropriate references, in my next book. I have Googled the lyrics several times, and "Edward and Mrs Simpson (1978)" is the hit that keeps popping up. If anyone out there has the info, please write to me directly at [email protected]. Many thanks......

Herbert Farjeon, brother of Eleanor Farjeon who wrote "Morning Has Broken" wrote the song.
