Please release this on DVD!!!!
I am surprised that Shout! or some boutique agency can't manage to get this released. I loved it that summer of 1980 when I was home from school and I was primed for LATE NIGHT when it came along in '82.
if you want to see even earlier letterman, hope and pray that someone in cyber land has vhs copies of mary tyler moore's short lived variety show that aired three episodes in september 1978. letterman was really an unknown when he did that show as was michael ``batman'' keaton.

Boy, it's hard to believe that it's been nearly 30-years and my memory certainty isn't what it used to be, but I thought this show was done in California.
Doing some cleaning and I came across some beta tapes (anyone besides me old enough to have used those?) and the show was in fact done in New York... I had forgotten how much a part Rich Hall and Edwin Newman played in the show... I do remember Loudon Wainwright III was a regular music guest. It certainly was interesting to see these shows after all these years! :)
