News on the restauration-project:

"Munich, 7 September 2006. The Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation and Bavaria Media GmbH have teamed up to lavishly restore BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ, the central work in the oeuvre of legendary film director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Under the artistic direction of the production's original director of photography Xaver Schwarzenberger, the executive direction of Dieter Minx, who was then the production manager of the series, and the overall direction of Juliane Lorenz, then film editor and today president of the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation, the more than 900 minutes of 16 mm material are being digitally prepared for contemporary reception, with every effort taken to ensure the highest authenticity. Bavaria Film International is responsible for the international distribution. (...) The restauration process will be finished in early 2007, the year of the 25th anniversary of Rainer Werner FassbinderĀ“s death."

Daily Variety picked up the story too and added that the Museum of Modern Art in New York would be involved with the restoration as well and that there would definitely be a release on DVD sometime after the restored version played at several festivals around the world. I will post the article so you can read it for yourself.
