criterion release upcoming!

Criterion has apparently been working on a special edition release that should come out sometime this year...god bless criterion! Although I haven't had the privilege of seeing this monster yet, I can't wait.

That is not true. The Fassbinder Foundation has been restoring Berlin Alexanderplatz for a long while now, expecting to finish in 2006. Criterion has nothing to do with it, they just have been trying to talk the Fassbinder Foundation into letting them put it out on DVD, that's all, only talking.

Jesus...15 hours. I love Fassbinder (well, everything post-Merchant of Four Seasons films) but I wouldn't sit through 15 hours of anything. Life is too short.

Oh yes you would. You would easily sleep 15 hours away in two nights, you would spend three summer mornings lying on the beach, you would spend a week surfing the web, you might even watch your favorite tv show for 15 hours in any particular month - and all of that precious time would be lost, never to recur in your mind again.

Yet if you watch Berlin Alexanderplatz, you will remember that experience for the rest of your life - and it will make the rest of your life richer.

Art is not a substitute for life. Art *is* life. Experiencing real art is not a waste of time. It is living.

Absolutely agree with you couzijn. I saw it over a decade ago in Calcutta, India in the German Cultural Center (they spread it over 5 days :-)) & I still remember scenes. It has an impact waaay more powerful than a 90 minute will-o-the-wisp ...

The first HEIMAT is out on DVD, so it's about time this film came out, too...

Wow, a link to a crappy DVD bootleg taken from poor quality videos. Surely I am talking with God here and not some simple IMDb user?

I know, and I was just wondering if it was really God that was linking this because never in my life would I have imagined that out there, somewhere in this world, there existed poor quality bootlegs and that I, in the face of the current restoration/DVD news, could buy them. It's truly amazing.
