Pre-Marital Sex

The idea of young persons having sex was an issue that was somewhat more on the zeitgeist in the late seventies, when this movie was made. While the writers of the story don't take a binary approach to this issue, in examining the course of the relationship between Derek & Robin (and the behaviour of her libertine mother), the message is imparted that it is not all that it is cracked up to be, and certainly it never has to be rushed. Despite the easy availability of birth control methods, and peer pressures, nobody should be forced to do this, until they are entirely comfortable with it, and this message was imparted, when Robin saw the doctor.
