Buster Keaton, as in 'stoneface'?
Keaton was one of the most naturally gracefull and athletic movie performers of all time, and one of the most deadpan, whereas i think the opposite is true of Kinski on both counts.
love them both , though...
Maybe I didn't word it right. There was just an air, something I can't put my finger on, about the film that reminded me of a Keaton film. Maybe it isn't even a Keaton film, just that era I'm thinking of.

That's it! After all, he started out on the stage and probably learnt how to play to the audience and carried it over to film.
