Knowing about the murder doesn't ruin the ending, how could it?

i want to go in fresh!

Damn it! Thanks for ruining the ending, Georg Büchner! I read the book and I sitll enjoyed this movie. How could it ruin such a wonderful story by knowing that Woyzeck kills Marie.
Kinskis is just great in this movie. Belongs to the top5 performances of all time in my opinion.

SPOILERS*****

In all seriousness I agree with millhouse. I never took German lit so I had no idea what Woyzeck was about. But wanting to be a Herzog completest I got the DVD and the whole time I watched the movie I knew he was going to stab his wife!! Gah, like Frank Costanza I wanted to go in fresh too!

I love this film, full of dark humour - arguably Kinski's finest performance. You should give it another viewing, I only really appreciated it on the second viewing.

Every Kinski performance I've seen so far is arguably his best.

Worst cover spoiler since "Planet of the Apes".

I was lucky and saw this film before visiting imdb, seeing the DVD or posters. It is MUCH better if the murder takes you by surprise. The whole time you think Woyzeck is a harmless little mouse. You cringe at the way he's pushed around & manhandled by everyone else. Then suddenly... wow. If you look at Kinski's face during the murder, he is just as shocked and horrified as the audience is (supposed to be). Shame the DVD packagers botched the effect.

Too bad it was ruined for you, millhouse. I really think you would've enjoyed it more without the spoiler.

I would not recommend Planet of the Apes on DVD then xP

i think the cover gives off a good effect. like the film 71 fragments of a chronology of chance. it says on the dvd that someone is gonna kill three people and then commit suicide. technically it ruins the ending but thats the best thing about that movie. the whole time, youre waiting to see who is gonna die, when its gonna happen, and your imagination runs wild. the same thing should happen with woyzeck. throughout the movie i was wondering how could a strange man like woyzeck commit murder? and slowly i saw the madness creep out of him, and i felt the climax was ultimately satisfying, even though i knew it was gonna happen. Also, it doesn't necessarily say that it's a 100% fact that Woyzeck was gonna kill some girl. For all we know, Woyzeck might be contemplating killing and then changing his mind. Or the cover could just be a fantasy. Or dream.

Hmm, I think they expect most people to know how the Woyzeck play ends.. Besides, that way you are watching his descent into hell, awaiting the inevitable end; I think it works quite well.
