Of 4 Herzog films I've seen... the only one I didn't enjoy (spoilers)

I've seen "Aguirre, Wrath Of God", "Nosferatu: Phantom Der Nacht", "Woyzeck" and "Fitzcarraldo".

So it's not like I don't appreciate Werner Herzog's films... I love the "bleakness" and importance of "scenery shots" of his films... and "Woyzeck" possesses the same traits... but the story was very, very odd... and I strongly suspect that the English subtitles were misleading (I don't speak German but I've heard that the subtitles are sometimes not translated well).
Obviously I haven't read the book... anyone that has, is the film loyal to the book??

Obviously, this film was made on a "shoestring budget"... this is not necessarily a bad thing (a lot of low budget films are excellent)... but when a filmmaker decides to yell "cut" less than 30 times for THE WHOLE PRODUCTION... well that's the kind of thing that the infamous Ed Wood used to do (and a big reason why many believe he's the worst film director ever)... it's extremely lazy to underestimate an actor's performance, not to do several takes usually results in poor performances... luckily, not so with a great actor like Kinski... just the thought that the film's budget is so small that they couldn't do multiple takes of many scenes is sad.

Also, I'm having trouble coming up with a word to define the ending... after he kills his wife (way out in the open, where anyone could be witnessing the crime), it goes on to say something to the effect of "this was a perfect crime"... REALLY?!?... if the police had "half a brain", Woyzeck would have been arrested for murder... who else would have done it??

Of course, Werner Herzog can't be faulted with the story (because he didn't write it) but he chose to make the film... so the lack of "logic" in a lot of places is in fact his fault (the way I see it)

I've seen a lot of "odd" films (for lack of a better word)... but Werner Herzog's "Woyzeck" just wasn't a very good film (in my opinion)...
