Differences between 1979 cut and 1983 re-release

Does anyone know? Also, is the "Director's Cut" that Richert re-released the one that's currently available on the 2003 Anchor Bay release and recently on WB DVD-R? Thanks.

Perhaps one of the alterations is the ending. I read in an Amazon review that the DVD and VHS versions have different endings. I have no way of checking.
