Swan - cool or faggy name ?

The name's too pretty. Also, I'm thinking about how well he would have fit in wearing that leather vest to a gay bar and I'm leaning towards faggy.

Your opinions ... ?

reply

Well faggy is now "in" and running the country. So maybe it was ahead of it's time.

It depends on your perspective, I guess.

The leader of the Montreal Hells Angels chapter was nicknamed "Mom", that's pretty "faggy", as far as nicknames go, but I don't think anyone will ever dare say it to the man's face...

Swan's actions made him cool. He kept his cool throughout the entire ordeal. So, in the end, if the cool guy is named "Swan", then "Swan" is a cool name, in my opinion.

This particular Swan is a bad ass mother *beep* so im saying its cool.

reply

The name really depends on what is associated with the person.

As one of the posters mentioned....a Hell's angel nicknamed "Mom" doesnt strike fear if one just heard the name in a story.

If i just heard a person name swan, i would be like, the f&ck is that??? lol.

But if i associate Swan with the person I see in the movie (The Warriors), i give that name a sense of respect now, and from here on, if I heard someone name Swan in real life, i would already have this predetermined notion of what the name would mean.... i would associate that with the movie I saw.

Its like that for music too.

Like for Bronx Tale (Deniro/Chaz)...the opening song is "I wonder why" by Dion.

When I play it, my friends are like, wtf is this song??? But when I play it, i have this sense of respect for it because I associate the song with "Sonny" from the bronx tale.

I hope this post makes sense lol.

Remember "No Country For Old Men" and that guy's terrible haircut? Some people are DARING you to make fun of them, so they can smash your face.
Swan is one bad mother.

I saw a guy get hit with a Banjo once. He went down.

reply

Hmmmm.....yes, well umm....red leather vest, acts tough with the chicks in front of mates, says "fvck you" like a twelve year old girl.

A quick glance at the famous poster confirms it.

Fag.

reply

I guess it would take one to know one.

The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated.

reply

During the Roman Gladiatorial days, it wasn't uncommon for gladiators to take on "faggy" sounding names just because it threw their opponents off guard. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the intention here.

reply

Do you have any examples of those faggy Gladiator names ? Until I see a couple I'm gonna have to call bs on your part.

reply

Call bs on me as much as you want. I'm not going to hand you all the answers. If you're that curious, do what I did and start working. But since I'm in a generous mood I'll hand you an easy obvious start. Some of the documentaries on the Gladiator DVD has some excellent histories in them.

uh yha - ok.

There is a notorious Blood gang in L.A. called the Madd Swans, so there you go.

reply

and your point is....?

reply

My point? There is an entire faction of one of the most notorious gangs in the world named Swans. When people in L.A. hear the name Swan when it pertains to gangs, they don't think of it as "faggy". The reputation of the gang has turned the name into something hard. That's how vicious the gang is. You ever hear the expression- "only real men can wear pink"? Only a real tough guy can have a name like Swan. The reputation of the guy would change your opinion on what the name sounds like.

reply

I think you're kinda overreacting to the question at hand. Don't get too excited.

reply

No, I added substance to an otherwise stupid thread.

reply

Both.
It's the tough guy with a pretty name thing where he dares anyone to say something to him.

reply

It's the tough guy with a pretty name and a pretty face that can be the most dangerous, and who one has to watch out for, if one gets the drift.

reply

Maybe his last name was Swanson? I was reminded of Bad Boys who had a badass prisoner named Tweety.

Just like the father's explanation in "A Boy Named Sue":

"Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong"

He said, "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do
But ya ought to thank me, before I die
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
'Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you Sue"
