Why didn't Michael Beck become a star?

He was tremendous as Swan, a really cool leader and bad ass. He was a good actor. I'm surprised he never became a more notable star.

And you can deal with me; Doug Masters!

Personally I blame Xanadu ;)

Met him once at a convention, seemed like a nice guy in person.

That's good to hear, he seems like a cool guy. It's great when actors appreciate the fans of their movies and the characters they played.

He was quite charismatic and had the laconic charm.
Really thought he'd have become a big star but life is life I guess.

He was gorgeous.

No matter.
Try again, fail again.
Fail better.

I liked him in WARLORDS OF THE 21st CENTURY, but it IS B-rate. Never saw XANADU....

Not everyone makes it to the top. I thought Xanadu was a lousy movie. He kept working in films and tv but Warriors was his biggest film.

I was absolutely electrified the first time I saw Warriors. The whole cast was great, the gangs were super with the makeup and costumes (baseball!). Great, great music. And that chick gang OMG. Deborah Van Valkenburgh was so good, her speech about her crummy life was so realistic.

And Michael Beck was perfect as Swann. Even if he never became a big star, nobody who has seen Warriors will ever forget him.

He was extremely hot as Swan.

reply

I did not like him as Swan in The Warriors. He was unconvincing as a gang leader.

reply

He probably refused to suck someone's dick at some point. That's a career-ender in Hollywood.
