Anyone else REALLY wanted Nina and Richie together?

I was upset that he chose the annoying girl instead of Nina :( Ruined the movie for me

reply

I'm not sure how something that happens the way it happens could "ruin the movie" for someone, but that aside yes, I did find myself wanting the two of them to get together. But alas, for several reasons it just wasn't meant to be.

I think part of the point of the movie was that the greaser era was coming to and end and Richie was living in the past while Nina had moved on.

Dolph Sweets' daugher was hotter.

In the book Nina was Buddy's girlfriend

Yeah but she was a PAIN in the ass! Did it ever occur to her, go on birth control, yea going steady with a guy, sooner or later ya going do the deed.

The pill did not exist then and men were expected to buy condoms but they were not sold openly.Usually only barbers had them.

I did, too, but they were different people on different paths. He was fascinated by Nina because he sensed she was going places.

I also loved their last scene.

reply

No, the scene where he follows her to the folk club but doesn't go in and watches her from the window while Dylan plays "The Times They Are A-Changin'" is perfect for me. Appropriate and effective ending. For me, one of the best scenes ever.

"Somebody showed me a picture, and I just laughed
Dignity never been photographed."

There's no way that Richie and Nina could've really stayed together. Their differences were much too great.
