Only thing that confuses me is...

....that there are people confused by this movie. They lay it all out in the opening story. Even the bald dudes in track suits are more or less explained. I get that the movie is weird and really out there with certain elements left vague, but in general it's pretty easy to follow if you pay attention. One has to wonder if the majority of the people who cry about The Visitor not making sense are those who either a) didn't pay attention or b) regurgitate what movie snobs say. I'm not a film professor or even remarkably intelligent. I am willing to bet and accept I fall under a pretty average IQ, and while The Visitor is pretty wacky, the plot is all there.

Pity it's not in a particularly coherent order. Like it or loathe it, I don't see how anyone can argue against it being a technically inept film.

reply

Yeah, the plot's there but there are so many needless scenes and mindless chases and noises that don't relate to the plot. It's like the director gets in the way of the plot advancing. For example, how long can we look at that closeup of Huston at the end? It had to last twenty minutes. Yeow.

reply

The incoherence results from none of the characters' words or actions aligning with the plot that is laid out n the first five minutes. Motivations are tossed out the window.

I'm confused as to why the detective kept his foot on the accelerator and kept trying to drive while he was barreling down against traffic, causing collisions, and finally running over a biker... all while an eagle is poking at his eyes.

reply

That was no Eagle.

I agree, so many reviews made it sound completely incomprehensible. Everything made perfect sense.

reply

Being able to piece together a basic plot is far different than "everything made perfect sense", which for anyone who has actually seen this movie, is simply not true. A great deal of it makes no sense.
