Oh boy...

I remember begging my mom to take me to see this, based on the movie poster. I was 10 y.o. at the time. Good lord, this movie was such a bore. Did anyone find it interesting? Was it a good movie? LOL, perhaps there was a reason why it was R rated, so dumb kids like I was, aren't allowed to see something they couldn't comprehend. However, judging by the 2.7 rating, I'm assuming there are others out there that didn't like this movie either.

My mother took me to see this when I was 10, too. I remember her saying "Well, I hope the hell they get back to Mars and stay there!"

I didn't see it when it came out. I saw it years later and I liked it.
I like weird horror movies.

I found this film to be a gloriously ludicrous unintentional laugh riot. It's by no means a good movie, but it's nonetheless often quite funny in its jaw-dropping badness.

Is your opinion of this film based on your viewing it as a 10 year old? Because there is no way someone that young could comprehend or appreciate something like this incredible movie. "The Visitor" belongs to a specific genre of arthouse films that pay more attention to the symbolism and the visuals, than to any linear story. A little kid can't appreciate things like cinematography, or style. See it again as an adult. Unless you are strictly into movies like "The Expendables" then you should find something interesting about this totally unique, visionary film. And the fact that you wonder why it got an 'R' rating is further proof that you don't have a clear memory of this.. I think the low score here only proves that this movie is most definitely not for the average viewer.

Yes, that was an opinion of when I was a little boy, and was made 6 years ago.

I re-watched this movie a few months back. It's also available (again) on Amazon Prime streaming.

Now, as a 44 year old man today, I can view this movie through different eyes, however, this movie is still horrible. Yes, it's very unique and I'll admit, it is not for everyone. I get the symbolism, and I appreciate "art-house" movies, but this can be such a subjective word. This IMHO, is not an art-house movie. It was a horrible, cheesy, wanna be movie that fell in line with all of the other corny movies that came out post Exorcist. Phantasm, The Brood, It's Alive, etc etc. I can appreciate all these movies, including The Visitor, strictly for nostalgic reasons, but art-house? Is this what people are calling art-house? If so, then this is a case of another man's garbage is another man's treasure. Nothing wrong with that, but I disagree with you. This movie sucked.

But before you respond back in haste, please respect my opinion. I'm not nitpicking your opinion, please respect mine. Thank you.

Of course I respect your opinion, and I know that if everybody had the same opinion about things this would be a boring place to live! "The Visitor" belongs to a specific genre, this collection of Italian movies from the 70's & 80's that were experimental and avant-garde. Maybe the better word for this movie would be "experimental," rather than "art house." I'm aware also that these movies only appeal to a small percentage of movie fans. They are weird, sometimes for the sake of being weird, they are sometimes frustrating because they often invoke feelings of "what the hell is this?" etc. The majority of audiences equate "weird" with "bad." For instance my parents are very normal, down to Earth types, and they would think this movie was absolute garbage! My brother too, is very straight-laced, and he would see "The Visitor" as junk. but believe me, fans of avant garde cinema, films like "Suspiria" and Jodorowski's "Holy Mountain" really love this movie. It bends reality, and takes the viewer on a strange trip, while making them think about what they are seeing. It also dazzles the senses with strange and often beautiful imagery, and for some people, that is enough. Personally, i see film as a purely visual art, and if a movie can offer such powerful imagery, i believe a coherent script or story is not even necessary. The thing is that I love these movies so much that I cannot understand when someone isn't impressed with them. It bothers me when someone refers to something like this as "garbage," because good or bad, there is a lot going on here, and movies like this have a lot of very unique qualities. would you at least agree that the movie had some very good death scenes? Or some memorable cinematography?

I think you're both right. This movie is terrible and beautiful and absurd and hallucinogenic. It is a hardcore cult movie fan's dream.

I'd agree with that. I wanna say it's so bad it's good but more like "so bizarre it's mesmorizing"; the way it rips-off Rosemary's Baby, Close Encounters and The Omen II and just throws it in the blender like that. So weird. The only other sci-fi/horror movie that I can think of that appeals that way is Lifeforce.

I think I'm going to watch this again. I was referencing this movie on the Suicide Squad board, and came here to find the trailer link that was actually better than the movie, but instead found this thread I create long ago, lol. Totally forgot I made this 
