The most underrated horror movie of all time?

I made a video on Youtube about what I consider to be the top ten most underrated movies of all time, and I picked Tourist Trap as #1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1TyjBEjHZY

No, I would definately have to disagree.

Tourist Trap is just... lame. It's like a more Southern version of House Of Wax and I don't like that one either to begin with. Mannequins and wax figures just don't do anything for me - especially when you have real people doubling for dummies as a distraction. And the thing with "the creepy old man" and all his Norman Batesesque *beep* seems a bit thin to begin with, but what kills it completely, for me at least, is when he bumbles around in a latino Ronald Reagan looking mask doing silly lines like "why don't you like me?" complete with that cartoony evil laugh and the fact that he seems to have psychokinetic powers or something, so yeah, it's just lame all around.

Or that's my opinion... 3/10

Totally acceptable that you disagree, but I would love to know what YOU think is the most underrated horror movie of all time.

Not that you care, but my #1 choice is "The Sentinel."

jyri_krr is a bone-head pure and simple! Tourist Trap is a fantastic scary film and the music by Pino Donaggio is breathtaking! :-)

reply

Yes it is quite underrated. Probably not the most underrated, but a good, creepy low budget horror with great atmosphere.

This film is damn creepy and unsettling. The moaning and screaming mannequins are quite freaky and frightening as all hell.

Halloween 3 is the most under rated horror film ever made. Tourist trap is awesome too.

reply

Halloween 3 and Tourist Trap are both solid choices but I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2 is the most underrated horror flick of all time. A sequel that, in my opinion, is even better than the original.

reply

I haven't seen that one, but one sequel which I think is better than the original is Friday 13th part 2. And I also enjoyed Psycho 2 more than the original.

reply

I have to agree, TCM2 is my favorite on the saga.

reply

I wouldnt say of ALL time, but it definitely deserves more attention.

reply

At 6.2 I'd say it's overrated, at least on IMDB. Should be between 4.9 - 5.1.

reply

it is certainly an overlooked horror movie. there are elements of it that are genuinely creepy.

Choosing the most underrated horror movie of all time is next to impossible because there are so many choices and it's all based on preferences. But I would agree that Tourist Trap is among the most. Others, in no particular order, would include Just Before Dawn (1981), Alone in the Dark (1982), House by the Cemetery (1981), Dead & Buried (1981), Madman (1982), Creep (2004), Martyrs (2008), The Collector (2009), Stage Fright (1987), Maniac (Twice! 1980, 2012), Baby Blues (2008), Splinter (2008), Outpost (2008), Dead Snow (2009), Frankenstein's Army (2013), Dead Birds (2004)... sheesh, I should have just created a list. But you see my point?

reply

Wow, dedoc, I haven't seen most of those. I guess I have some streaming to do!

reply

Hey Bri, yes I love me some horror. I've got plenty more I didn't list. PM me if you want to talk horror or exchange title recommendations. -DD67

I know this thread is ancient, but my favorite underrated horror movies from that era would be Alice Sweet Alice and The Children. I saw both at a very young age, and spent years in therapy for it, lol.

reply

Good choices, cbnspanky2. I especially agree with Alice Sweet Alice.

I agree that Tourist Trap is an underrated film and is a decent horror film that performs its job well. Do I think its the most underrated of ALL time? No. I'll give you another horror film that is very underrated and should be on the list, is Curtains (1983). That film scared me on account of just the killer's mask, but the overall look and feel of the film is what really did me in. Really underrated and worth a look for fans of the slasher genre.

reply

I remember Curtains. That slow skate across the ice was chilling.
