Not handled right back in 1980

Remember back in 1980 seeing a small ad in the movie section for Tom Horn w/Steve McQuenn's name by it. I think Warner Bros. didn't advertise it that well since Steve was out of the public eye for a few years and thought it wwas better to give the movie a low key release and withdraw it quick from theaters. Still remember seeing it on the "big" screen and was glad to see Steve getting back to making moivies again. Miss him very much. Never be another star like him. Rest easy Steve we will never forget you. God Bless. Rich

Yeah, the play in the theaters went by pretty unnoticed back then. Glad I caught up with it later.

gotta remember that westerns as a film genre were on the outs in hollywood in 1980...i can only imagine that the combination of events such as the greatest star of the genre had died the year before & the colossal failure of 'heaven's gate' caused the studios to not want to spend much to promote any western - let alone this one - which is a rather dark & brooding flick albeit a very good one in my not quite so humble as it should be opinion

The first week this film opened I saw it at a DRIVE-IN. That's right, I had to go see this classic at a drive -in in first release, that's how badly they handled the release of this great film.
