Has the sepia tones and sweeping music of a 'Werthers Original' ad...

... with some cringeworthy dialogue to boot; all of which makes it a bit difficult to take seriously, despite the best efforts of Laurie and Gibson. If this is anything to go by, then thank goodness Mad Max (released the same year) counteracted the trend of moribund Aussie film-making! It's so hideously misjudged in terms of melodrama that the brief love scene is disasterously curtailed with a shimmering fade that seems straight out of a "Scooby-Doo" sequence! 3/10.

I really liked this movie, but I completely agree with you about the music and the love scene. Very cheesy! But, ya know, maybe the reason I liked it so much was because I loved the book. Book was much better.

... but I wouldn't know, as I've not read it yet, myself...

FYI- I just bought a copy on ebay for 25 cents.

The book is awesome. I read it and then gave it to my sister, Crissymouse. It's not a romance but more of a love story.

The movie soundtrack is sooooo cheesy. The movie itself was pretty good. I think I liked the movie so much because I liked the book so much. You should really read the book before watching the movie.

And now for something completely different.

... What's the difference?

A romance deals more with the physical side of things, you know, her heaving bosoms and his bursting loins. A love story is about the emotions and situations that bring 2 people together.

... That isn't "romance", to me; it's 'passion'... Real romance is rarely expressed by urgent desire; it can be slow and gentle, taking its time...

Buying your partner flowers for no other reason than because you can - I think that's 'romantic', but it doesn't involve body parts!
