Does anyone know any 'Tims'?

attractive yet slow men? do they exist or only in movies?

reply

They exist but are usually surrounded by the worst type of hangers-on. Sad really. But I recently separated from a 'Tim'. I wish him the best & pray for him every night. Still love him.

I'm sure there are such people, but the type of man-child Mel portrays here seems to have come straight out of the director's and Mel's half-baked imaginations (or wicked sense of fun, depending on how you interpret their intentions). And I doubt that anyone that simple would have eyes that lustrously bright. Mel may be many things, but low-IQ is not one of them.

ha no kidding. it would be an interesting subject to cover in real life though. like one of the other posters had commented of having had such a relationship.

When I was teaching, one of my students was very like Tim. He was a beautiful young man and a rather good athlete. But, when discussing schoolwork with him, he was eager but obviously incapable of "getting it". He had eyes rather like Mel's, so I think Mr. Gibson gives a wonderful interpretation. This boy seemed to love life even though school was difficult, and he was rather popular because he had a very sweet personality (again, like Tim).

But, some teachers told me, "He's like one of those dumb blonde jokes." I thought that was so sad to hear their attitude, which they probably had toward other students. He tried so hard to keep up, but I wondered how he was going to do in his junior and senior years. Who knows? He might have handled life just fine if he found the right person.

I have a family member a bit like Tim- much higher functioning, very handsome. He is a bit slow and has difficulty in make decisions. He wed a plain but nice girl. She calls all the shots and he accepts it, his mom did the same.

When I saw this film I had to think of the very sad case of Pierre Pahlke from Essen in Germany. Since September 2013, when he was 21-years old, he is been missing and nobody knows if he is still alive. His case was a lot in the German media and recently it was in the well-known German TV-programme "Aktenzeichen XY" again.

Because of a lack of oxygene at his birth he was mentally retarded and on the level of a four your old. However he looked completely normal and was actually a very handsome guy. http://www.derwesten.de/staedte/essen/vermisstenfall-pierre-pahlke-kripo-ermittelte-in-amsterdam-id11707982.html

For a while the police was suspecting some paedophiles in the neighbourhood or a link to the red-light district in Amsterdam, but nothing could be proven.
