Interesting, the images that stay with you...

I'm a lifelong lover of horror movies. I was just a kid when I first saw this in the early-mid 80's. I may well have only seen it once back then, although it came on one particular station's horror movie programming in regular rotation. I didn't fully understand it, being so young, and found most of it kind of boring.

I had always had an interest in writing and loved writing horror stories since the first grade. Later in the late 90's, I passed a writing school's aptitude test and began a writing course. My first story assignment that I handed in was a particularly gory horror story. Not really being a gore fiend anyway, I toned it down after that. An image popped into my head and I wasn't sure where I remembered it from, but I knew it would be perfect for my story if I changed it up a bit.

Tonight, I watched this movie for the first time since the early-mid 80's and I understood it much better and even liked it. When I saw the image pop up in the movie, I remembered about that story I wrote and was pleasantly surprised when things clicked together all these years after writing the story. The image was the girl taking a bite out of the bloody chicken leg. My character took a bite out of a bloody, severed hand.

So I'd like to thank the movie writers, crew and actors for a very good, memorable movie (even if I didn't fully understand it way back when) with memorable images, one in particular that inspired a great horror story. A special thanks goes to Chantal Contouri for that particular image.
